Early 20th Century Hand-Painted and B/W Postcards

Quick Selection List

{short description of image}

Introduction

Below are postcards from 1910-1922, all but one were handpainted before being sold. The colors have faded quite a bit, mostly to an ugly, flat yellowish tone.

The major aspect of restoring these cards was bringing back the colors, because they are so faded, but also the cardboard texture from the cards themselves become very prominent, as they raise with the colors and light values.

I had to develop some special techniques just to specifically deal with paper and cardboard textures that occur in this type of situation.

I think the results came out quite well, and bring back a sense of how charming these postcards really were and still can be.
